Bridge at Remagen in World War II

Bridge at Remagen in World War II The capture of the Ludendorff Bridge at Remagen occurred on March 7-8, 1945, during the closing stages of World War II  (1939-1945). In early 1945, American forces pressed towards the west bank of the Rhine River during Operation Lumberjack. In response, German forces were ordered to destroy the bridges over the river. As the lead elements of the US 9th Armored Division approached Remagen, they found that the Ludendorff Bridge over the river was still standing. In a sharp fight, American forces succeeded in securing the span. The capture of the bridge gave the Allies a foothold on the eastern bank of the river and opened Germany to invasion. HogeCombat Command B, 9th Armored DivisionGermansGeneral Edwin Graf von Rothkirch und TrachGeneral Otto HitzfeldLXVII Corps A Surprise Find In March 1945, with the bulge caused by the German Ardennes offensive effectively reduced, the US 1st Army launched Operation Lumberjack. Designed to reach the west bank of the Rhine, US troops quickly advanced on the cities of Cologne, Bonn, and Remagen. Unable to halt the Allied offensive, German troops began falling back as the fortifications in the region were penetrated. Though a withdrawal over the Rhine would have been prudent to allow German forces to regroup, Hitler demanded that every foot of territory be contested and that counterattacks be launched to regain what had been lost. This demand led to confusion along the front which was worsened by a series of changes in command an unit areas of responsibility. Aware that the Rhine posed the last major geographic obstacle to Allied troops as fighting moved east, Hitler ordered the bridges over the river destroyed (Map). On the morning of March 7, lead elements of the 27th Armored Infantry Battalion, Combat Command B, US 9th Armored Division reached the heights overlooking the town of Remagen. Looking down at the Rhine, they were stunned to find that the Ludendorff Bridge was still standing. Built during World War I, the railroad bridge remained intact with German forces retreating across its span. Initially, officers in the 27th began calling for artillery to drop the bridge and trap German forces on the west bank. Unable to secure artillery support, the 27th continued to observe the bridge. When word of the bridges status reached Brigadier General William Hoge, commanding Combat Command B, he issued orders for the 27th to advance into Remagen with support from the 14th Tank Battalion. Racing to the River As American troops entered into the town, they found little meaningful resistance as German doctrine called for rear areas to be defended by Volkssturm militia. Moving ahead, they found no major obstacles other than a machine gun nest overlooking the town square.  Quickly eliminating this with fire from M26 Pershing tanks, American forces raced forward as they expected the bridge to be blown by the Germans before it could be captured. These thoughts were reinforced when prisoners indicated that it was scheduled to be demolished at 4:00 PM. Already 3:15 PM, the 27th charged ahead to secure the bridge. As elements of Company A, led by Lieutenant Karl Timmermann, moved onto the bridges approaches, the Germans, led by Captain Willi Bratge, blew a 30-foot crater in the roadway with the goal of slowing the American advance. Reacting swiftly, engineers using tank dozers began filling the hole. Possessing around 500 poorly-trained and equipped men and 500  Volkssturm, Bratge had desired to blow the bridge earlier but had been unable to secure permission. With the Americans approaching, the majority of his  Volkssturm melted away leaving his remaining men largely clustered on the east bank of the river. Germany, March 11, 1945.   National Archives and Records Administration Storming the Bridge As Timmerman and his men began pressing forward, Bratge attempted to destroy the bridge. A massive explosion rocked the span, lifting it from its foundations. When the smoke settled, the bridge remained standing, though it had suffered some damage. Though many of the charges had detonated, others had not due to the actions of two Polish conscripts who had tampered with the fuses. As Timmermans men charged onto the span, Lieutenant Hugh Mott and Sergeants Eugene Dorland and John Reynolds climbed under the bridge to begin cutting the wires leading to the remaining German demolition charges. Reaching the bridge towers on the west bank, platoons stormed inside overwhelming the defenders. Having taken these vantage points, they provided covering fire for Timmerman and his men as they fought across the span. The first American to reach the east bank was Sergeant Alexander A. Drabik. As more men arrived, they moved to clear the tunnel and cliffs near the bridges eastern approaches. Securing a perimeter, they were reinforced during the evening. Pushing men and tanks across the Rhine, Hoge was able to secure the bridgehead giving the Allies a foothold on the east bank. The Ludendorff Bridge on March 17, 1945, approximately four hours before its collapse. National Archives and Records Administration Aftermath Dubbed the Miracle of Remagen, the capture of the Ludendorff Bridge opened the way for Allied troops to drive into the heart of Germany. Over 8,000 men crossed the bridge in the first twenty-four hours after its capture as engineers frantically worked to repair the span. Infuriated by its capture, Hitler swiftly ordered the trial and execution of the five officers assigned to its defense and destruction. Only Bratge survived as he had been captured by American forces before he could be arrested. Desperate to destroy the bridge, the Germans conducted air raids, V-2 rocket attacks, and frogman assaults against it. In addition, German forces launched a massive counterattack against the bridgehead with no success. As the Germans were attempting to strike the bridge, the 51st and 291st Engineer Battalions built pontoon and treadway bridges adjacent to the span. On March 17th, the bridge suddenly collapsed killing 28 and wounding 93 American engineers. Though it was lost, a substantial bridgehead had been built up which was supported by the pontoon bridges. The capture of the Ludendorff Bridge, along with Operation Varsity later that month, removed the Rhine as an obstacle to the Allied advance.

Delete Questions on SAT Writing 6 Steps to Answer

Add/Delete Questions on SAT Writing 6 Steps to Answer SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips Add/Delete questions require you to determine whether a sentence should be added or deleted from a passage. There are multiple add/delete questions on SAT Writing, so figuring out how to tackle these questions is imperative to improving your Writing score. In this post, I'll do the following: Explain add/delete questions Teach you the basic constructions of add/delete questions Provide example questions Give you strategies and a step-by-step approach for answering these questions Add/Delete on SAT Writing Add/Delete questions ask you if a sentence should be added or deleted from a specific part of a passage. Typically, these questions involve two parts: you have to determine if the sentence should be added or deleted, and you’ll also have to select why the sentence should be added or deleted. These questions require reading comprehension and understanding how a sentence fits within a passage. Generally, there are about 2-4 add/delete questions on the SAT Writing section. General Construction of Add/Delete Questions Being able to identify an add/delete question will help you determine how to quickly and efficiently select the right answer. Here are the general constructions for the add/delete questions you’ll find on SAT Writing. Add Questions This is the general construction of an add question: At this point, the writer is considering adding the following sentence. [Question Sentence Here] Should the writer make this addition here? A. Yes, because†¦ B. Yes, because†¦ C. No, because†¦ D. No, because†¦ You have to determine if the sentence should be added and identify the reason why it should or shouldn’t be added. Delete Questions Here is how delete questions are constructed: The writer is considering deleting the underlined sentence. Should the writer do this? A. Yes, because†¦ B. Yes, because†¦ C. No, because†¦ D. No, because†¦ Or you might see a delete question posed like this: The writer is considering deleting the underlined sentence. Should the sentence be kept or deleted? A. Kept, because B. Kept, because C. Deleted, because D. Deleted, because For delete questions, you have to determine if the underlined sentence makes sense at that point in the passage. Both questions are asking the same thing, but the wording of the questions is slightly different. Also, pay attention to the answer choices. In the first type, you choose answer choice A or B if the sentence should be deleted. In the second type, you choose choice C or D if the sentence should be deleted. Always read the question and answers carefully. Now we know how add/delete questions are constructed. Step-by-Step Guide to Add/Delete Questions Here are the steps to follow to answer add and delete questions. Add Questions These are the first two paragraphs of a passage and an add question from a practice SAT. #1: Analyze the Added Sentence to See What It’s Doing The sentence is pretty straightforward. It’s stating that some scholars believe that the lavishness of the lifestyles during the reign of King Louis XV helped bring about the conditions that caused the French Revolution. #2: Refer Back to the Passage to See if the Sentence Should Be Added Given Where It Would Be Placed The added sentence must be relevant in context. It must logically follow previous sentences and set up the information that comes after it. While the previous sentence references King Louis XV, the passage up to that point is about an exhibit showing tiny rooms. The following sentences are a description of the miniature salon. The sentence in question wouldn’t make sense because the focus of the paragraph is on the appearance of the room and has nothing to do with whether or not the excesses of the era caused the French Revolution. #3: Answer the Yes or No Question First Because the sentence wouldn’t logically fit in the context of the passage, we can determine that the answer is no. #4: Eliminate the Two â€Å"Yes† or â€Å"No† Answer Choices Because the answer is no, we can immediately eliminate A and B. #5: Provide the Reasoning in Your Own Words In my own words, I would say that the sentence shouldn’t be added because the paragraph is focusing on the appearance of the room. #6: Pick the Answer Choice That Most Closely Matches Your Reasoning Answer choice D is wrong because there is no mention of the interior designer. Again, the focus is on what the room looks like. The correct answer is C. It most closely matches our reasoning. Adding the irrelevant sentence would disrupt the description of the miniature salon. Delete Questions Next, I'll walk you through how to answer a delete question. The steps are very similar to those of the add questions. #1: Determine the Purpose of the Deleted Sentence The sentence is providing the cost of starting a new coworking business in the US. #2: Refer Back to the Passage to Determine if the Sentence Should Be Deleted Based on Its Location in the Passage In our example, we have to determine if providing the cost of starting a coworking business is relevant to the focus of the passage. The passage is describing coworking spaces. Nowhere else is there information about starting a coworking business. If you’re not reading closely, you may see the word â€Å"fee† in the first sentence, and then assume that that’s related to the underlined sentence. However, the first sentence just mentions that you can use coworking spaces for a fee; it has nothing to do with starting a coworking business. Again, the focus is on the traits and qualities of coworking spaces. #3: Answer the Kept or Deleted Question First Because the sentence is irrelevant to the focus of the paragraph, the sentence should be deleted. #4: Eliminate the Two Kept or Deleted Answer Choices Because the sentence should be deleted, we can eliminate choices A and B. #5: Provide the Reasoning in Your Own Words I would say that the sentence should be deleted because the cost of starting a coworking business isn’t related to the paragraph’s focus of describing coworking spaces. #6: Select the Answer Choice That Most Closely Matches Your Reasoning While I didn’t provide the previous paragraph, there’s no mention of the cost of starting a coworking business in that paragraph. We can eliminate answer choice D. The correct answer is C. The sentence isn’t related to the paragraph’s main focus. Sean MacEntee/Flickr Quick Review: General Strategies Here’s advice to follow when answering all add/delete questions. #1: Determine the Purpose or Summarize the Sentence That Would Be Added or Deleted In order to decide whether to add or delete a sentence, you need to know what the sentence means and why it would be included in the passage. #2: Refer Back to the Passage to Determine If the Added or Deleted Sentence Logically Fits Any added sentence should logically follow the previous sentence and connect to the following sentence. Additionally, an added sentence must be relevant to the focus of the paragraph or passage. A sentence should be deleted if it falls outside the scope of the passage or doesn’t logically connect to the previous and following sentences. #3: Answer the First Part First Answer the â€Å"yes† or â€Å"no† question or â€Å"kept† or â€Å"deleted† question first. #4: Eliminate Wrong Answer Choices You can immediately eliminate the two answer choices that don’t match your answer to the first part of the question. If it's an add question and you think the sentence should be added, you can get rid of the answer choices that state the sentence shouldn't be added. Or if you think the sentence shouldn't be added, you can get rid of the two answer choices that claim the sentence should be added. #5: Select the Answer Choice That Most Clearly Matches Your Reasoning For all add/delete questions, before selecting an answer, determine in your own words why a sentence should be added or deleted. Ideally, you’ll see an answer choice that’s almost identical to your reasoning. If there’s no answer that matches your reasoning, work backwards to select the correct answer. Start with the answer choice and then determine if it's accurate. Or, if time permits, review the question/passage again to make sure you didn't make a mistake. What's Next? Health Care Provider Faith and Diversity Research Paper

Health Care Provider Faith and Diversity - Research Paper Example Health Care Provider Faith and Diversity The link between spirituality and patient treatment has been a substantial concern in health care. Spirituality plays a vital part in patients’ life and there exist a relationship between patient’s religious pledge and health consequences. Thus, patients prefer the healthcare providers to consider the religious factors in health care (Anandarajah & Hight, 2001). Different religious groups possess diverse belief system in terms of heath care. Thus, a health care provider must remain aware regarding diverse religious beliefs in order to provide quality medical care. A spiritual assessment is generally regarded as a practical step in integrating patients’ spirituality into health care practice. Spiritual assessment is the procedure through which health care providers can recognize the spiritual requirements of patients relating to their psychological health conditions (Hefner, 2008). Therefore this assignment deals in spiritual assessment of a patient with respect t o understanding the religious belief. The objective of the assignment is to recognize how different religion view healing and what are the factors they consider most while receiving significant health care services. In order to undertake the spiritual assessment, I employed the tool of Spirituality Scale. Spirituality Scale is a holistic tool that is intended to evaluate the opinions, perceptions, religious practices and ritual characteristics of patients.

The Arrival of the Europeans Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words - 1

The Arrival of the Europeans - Essay Example They were a part of the Virginia Company of London (Morgan, 18). Much of the history of this time does not talk of the atrocities that were committed upon the people who were Native Americans. This points to the historical inaccuracies that are created by colonialism as an economic and political phenomenon. Jamestown experienced severe difficulties in setting up a local economy and for a very long time was dependent upon the economy of the mother country, that is, England. This was the case with many new colonies around this time. They were unable to find a firm footing in the new lands. This was attributed in many cases to the lack of labor in these new lands. The situation was different where the colonization was not accompanied by a genocide and labor could be had from the local populations. This was however, not the case with Jamestown. Edmund S. Morgan talks of the reasons as to why the English were unable to begin the production of food in the new colony. The composition of the population is touted as the major reason for this failure. The composition of the colonial population consisted of, to a large extent, the nobility of England. This meant that there was not enough labor available in the new colony, to work in the fields. This hampered the production of food to a great extent. Morgan attributes the failure of the production of food to the â€Å"poor organization† of the colonial enterprise and Jamestown in particular. This then resulted in alliances with the natives of America. In a short while, thus, the colonizers were dependent on the natives for a large part of their lives (19-21). One of the main reasons for the survival of the English settlement in Jamestown was the success of John Smith. John Smith was an experienced man and knew how to deal with the Indians and was also well versed in warfare. The cruel manner in which he dealt with the Indians was

A Combination of Liberal Arts and Christianity Essay Example for Free

A Combination of Liberal Arts and Christianity Essay Two ways of thought and life are combined to make one learning environment. Liberal arts and Christianity seem like two separate concepts to most, but together they create a harmonious setting for an individual to grow in a multitude of ways. A Liberal Arts College creates a life long thinker that becomes adaptable to society using their knowledge to make decisions. In Holmes pg 35 he says, â€Å" Liberal education is an open invitation to join the human race and become more fully human. Its goals are to read and write and thereby think independently, and appreciation of lasting values coupled with the ability to make sound value judgements and live by them, a critical appreciation of the past and responsible creative participation in the future.† We are educated from kindergarden to 12th grade to learn the fundamentals of all subjects with hopes to impact the society as an educated citizen. This hope is continued if we choose to further our education in college with a specific emphasis on a major. Like many students with a major, Christians are faithful students that use the Bible to guide their daily lives, but to the rest of the world they can be viewed as sheltered and limited to their beliefs. This causes a hindering on effectiveness that Christian have in the community and a misunderstanding of the validity of their thoughts. in Holmes pg 6 he supports this thought by saying,† Unless we understand the thought and value-patterns of our day, as well as those of biblical revelation and the Christian community, and unless we speak fluently the language of our contemporaries, we tragically limit our effectiveness.â€Å" With a Christian College education is heightened by integrating literarary works, theories, and concepts to Christian commitment, moral, and faith making a collaboration of endless possibilities. This creates a well rounded opportunity for students to learn at a college with the strengths of both liberal arts and Christianity called a Christian College. We are not limited to any one way of thinking. As people we want to explore and question the how, what, where, and why’s of the world. The Christian College does not limit the ability of self perception or thought, but encourages the process. Using liberal arts to educate the Christian learner and further their insight in the world is a primary purpose of a Christian College. As stated in Holmes pg 8 â€Å"†¦integration of faith and learning remains the distinctive task of the Christion liberal arts college.† The worldview of Christianity should not be  limited to ones home, but incooperated throughout a persons education to further equipt them for a future that will continue to challenge and question their abilities. In support of this thought, On page 36 Holmes writes on the ever lasting benefits of education,† If the person, including what she becomes in this life, has an eternal destiny, then what I become in the process of education lives on forever†¦ Christian liberal arts education has an eternity in view.† For most, being a student is only a fragment of a lifetime. That is why the importance of receiving a well rounded education that a Christian College has to offer is essential to establish a foundation of education to apply to the remaining years of our lives. Learning with a purpose to become a reflective being, and value being, and a responsible agent will prepare an individual to step into the world and make educated, reasonable, and moral decisions. A reflective beings have a passion to learn, ask, and wonder which leads us to analyze and come up with our own thoughts of possibilities. Reflectiveness sometimes leads us to have a birds eye view of a thought as a whole as opposed to thinking in a narrow, closed minded way. Causing us to become more critical thinkers and nurture our natural inquisitions. Holmes states, â€Å" â€Å"To teach a person to read and write is to teach him to think for himself, to develop more fully the possession of his God-given powers. He becomes in fact, not just in possibility, a reflective, thinking being.† Next, as value being takes a worldview of everything important to them and acts on those thoughts and feelings for direction. In a Chirstian College we see those values as what God has created in the the reflection of Him, us. Actions we take have effects and the choices of those actions can not be learned by reading a book, but the foundations of values can guide a person towards a better outcome. Last, there is the need to be a responsible agent. As Christians we are accountable for our actions and are governed by our Lord Jesus Christ. Decisions of right and wrong are presented daily, but as a Christian going to a Christian College we are taught the principles of reasoning through education and guided with the righteous path God has called us to live. The world is filled with possibilities and opportunity, but it is the people we become with the help of a Christian College, that steers us on the road to a life of reflection, value, and responsibility. A Christian College provides a basis in creating a holistic person by incooperating faith with a liberal  arts education. To see life as one picture rather than a million tiny pieces in a puzzle can create a smoother transition from college to the real world. Often students face the delema of just figuring it out. There is no how to manual or direction guide of life. As Christians we look to the bible for answers and get the general idea of what should be done with digging into our faith, but the is an element of critical thinking that must be applied. That kind of thinking is learned though a Christian College. â€Å" If a person, including what she becomes in life, has an eternal destiny, then what I become in the process of education lives forever†¦Christian liberal arts education has an eternity in view.†(Holmes 36) No one person or book can teach us the do and don’ts in life, but a well round education can prepare us for a life of constant decisions and obst acle to overcome.

The Importance of Childhood Vaccination Essay -- Medicine Health

Since the introduction of vaccinations, medical science has managed to all but eliminate many formally fatal and debilitating childhood illnesses in countries where the immunization of children is nearly universal. Diseases such as measles, mumps, diphtheria, rubella and polio have been relegated to a marginal status in developed countries with active immunization campaigns; smallpox is actually considered to have been completely eliminated from the earth, without a single case having been reported since roughly 1979 (â€Å"Childhood†). Largely centered around a study published in 1998 in the British medical journal â€Å"The Lancet†, there has been an upsurge in concerns of the safety of vaccinations and a resulting decrease in their usage, which has lead to a somewhat anachronistic return of these diseases. While some parent's concerns over the safety of vaccinations are based upon the well-intentioned desire to keep children safe from autism, the act of not vaccinat ing children actually causes far greater damage by exposing them to acquiring potentially life-threatening illnesses and removing a critical link in the chain of herd immunity. Over the last 12 years, a growing population of parents have chosen to avoid immunizing their children with the misguided belief that they are protecting their children from the specter of autism. One of the most common concerns in this vein centers around the MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella combination) vaccine. The concern over the MMR vaccine began when â€Å"In 1998, Andrew Wakefield and colleagues published a paper in the journal â€Å"The Lancet†. George F. Handel

George F. Handel Brittany Shellem March 11, 2013 Monday 6:00pm Shellem 1 George F. Handel, a man born in the same time as Johann Sebastian Bach, has been recognized as one of the most underrated Baroque composers. Handel was born in the same time as Bach and only 50 miles away. This could largely be related to the reason why Handel is so underrated. Handel spent a large part of his childhood sneaking away and playing instruments behind his father's back. With his mother's assistance, Handel learned how to play the organ and eventually won his father's consent to study music.Success in music as a child led him to compose pieces and write operas. In the early part of Handel's life he spent time playing the organ for the Calvinist Cathedral. After his stay with the Calvinist Cathedral, Handel played violin and harpsichord for the only opera company in Germany that existed outside the royal courts, and also taught private lessons. Having inspiration from playing in an opera, George Hande l wrote his first opera, Almira in 1704. Handel found great success in his opera. The opera was performed twenty times in total until its place was aken by Handel's next opera, Nero. After his newly found success Shellem 2 George Handel moved to Italy in 1706 where he gained a wealth of knowledge on setting Italian lyrics to voice. In 1710, Geoge Handel was appointed Kapellmeister at Hanover, but soon took leave to London. Then, in 1719, he became musical director of the Royal Academy of Music. Much of Handel's time during the 1720's and 1730's was spent composing operas. While in the midst of his operas, Handel found the time to compose many other works. During the last few years of the 1730's, Handels operas were not as uccessful. Facing his own mortality in the opera world, Handel responded by focusing more on oratorio. Handel is best known for his usage of oratorios, choral dramas that emphasize arias and recitations. His use of choruses and religious sentiment in these pieces e volved into a new form of musical entertainment. Similar to operas, but devoid of scenery, the oratorio became a genre of its own. George Handel's focus on composing paid off when he composed the wildly successful oratorio, Messiah which was originally sung by a choir of 16 and an orchestra of 40.Tickets sold for atrocious amounts and music lovers publicized it constantly. Handel left Dublin for the Shellem 3 premiere of the piece. Unfortunately, Messiah was unsuccessful as audiences could not acclimate themselves to Handel's use of prose instead of a poetic text. Handel was a unique musician who did not limit his life work to operas and oratorios. He wrote anthems, psalms, and chamber music as well. Handel endured changes in his public life repeatedly throughout his career. Unfortunately, towards the close of his life he suffered from aralytic strokes and cataracts that ultimately left him blind. Despite his inability to see, Handel continued to perform and conduct. He was an inspi ration to other composers and musicians and died shortly after a performance of Messiah. Beethoven admired Handel's strength and creativity. Beethoven is quoted as saying, â€Å"Handel is the greatest composer who ever lived. I would bare my head and kneel at his grave† (1824). It would seem as if the earlier saying of Handel being one of the most underrated composers would be untrue. How can one man who accomplished so much and who was admired by so many of his peers be pushed under the rug? George Handel was a great musician and a strong Shellem 4 human being whose commitment to music withstood the rise and fall of his popularity. Works Cited Lang, Paul H. George Friderick Handel. Assumption Used in the Analysis and Completion of Report and Justifications

Premise Used the Analysis and Completion of Report and Justifications Pull offing human resource, order and supplies of resource Pull offing of human resources use to inspect the activities from get downing to the terminal of the building work. So, a good undertaking direction must smartly prosecute the efficient feat of labour. In this subdivision, Numberss of specializer participate, sum of hired workers or employee and name listing will listed out. About workers, we about hire 65 workers and guarantee those workers are legal. Pull offing the human resources is able to do certain the undertaking can run with swimmingly, because if delay occupation in either one subdivision, it will impact the undermentioned activities. So, the continuance to managing of human resources will meet for 1 hebdomad and another 1 hebdomad will supply as to order and supplies the resources, such as edifice stuffs. Why order the edifice stuffs need usage of 1 hebdomad to finish? Because telling a quality of stuffs is an highly of import subdivision in building procedure. The high quality of stuffs will be chosen in full edifice proc edure which to concern about user safety while they are utilizing. So, this subdivision should be pull off decently and to guarantee that we have sufficient clip to obtain the quality and necessary edifice stuffs. Leveling of land and stacking This subdivision ; dimensioning, grading of land and stacking foundation should pull off with decently because it will impact the full building procedure. We had measured good about the size of land we needed before the building commence. After that, we will get down leveling the land after the size of land is confirmed. After completion of those, so began stacking foundation. A foundation is need to back up the weight of whole edifice. So, a proper foundation work is indispensable to guarantee that the base construction is stable, strong and able to defy all of the burden. This full subdivision have entire 30 workers will delegate to this occupation and will be taken entire 6 hebdomads to finish and it including issue that delay the work such as errors in dirt study, bad conditions conditions and others. Drain system The drainage system besides need to pull off with decently because it may do all kinds of jobs to develop. For illustration, pipes to barricade, it may do the toilet’s drainage is non smooth, the H2O will go ponding, which is H2O that’s non traveling off and it will do people incommodiousness. So, this subdivision must be managed with decently and to guarantee that job will non go on. In this subdivision, there are entire 20 workers and 4 hebdomads will be taken to finish it. Footing and columns four of floor block After finish grading of land, stacking and drainage system’s subdivision, so will get down of terms and columns four of floor block. Footing are the parts of of import subdivision in building phase. Normally, they are reinforced with concrete and rebar has been poured to unearth trenches. After that, workers should detect the concrete has no snap when the concrete wholly dry. In this procedure, it is necessitate a long clip to allow the concrete prohibitionist before carry on the following activities. Hence, entire 30 workers and 12 hebdomads will be taken to carry on this subdivision. Constructing floor slab, walls, doors, window and paseo After complete those subdivision, will get down edifice floor slab, walls, doors, window and paseo on each floor. Constructing shocking slabs should pull off with decently, because it’s used to defy all of the burden. 5 Types of Specialized Dictionaries

5 Types of Specialized Dictionaries 5 Types of Specialized Dictionaries 5 Types of Specialized Dictionaries By Mark Nichol Dictionaries aren’t just for looking up spellings and meanings of a broad selection of terms; you’ll find biographical, geographical, and medical dictionaries, among other specialized volumes. Here are five other categories of repositories of words, with a link to one online example of each. 1. Reverse Dictionaries A reverse dictionary enables you to type in a phrase that describes a word or phrase you’re trying to think of. The matching technology is imperfect, of course, but a reverse dictionary is your best chance for coming up with that elusive term. Try this reverse dictionary at the dictionary portal OneLook.com, or, if you prefer a print resource, check out the Illustrated Reverse Dictionary, by John Ellison Kahn. 2. Visual Dictionaries Visual dictionaries like this one provide visitors with illustrations of animate and inanimate things labeled with parts and components. Merriam-Webster’s publishes a print visual dictionary, but many others are available, including multilingual ones and those produced especially for children. 3. Beginners’/Learners’ Dictionaries The Cambridge University Press has, among its family of online dictionaries, one with simplified definitions; for American English specifically, Merriam-Webster offers Word Central, an online children’s dictionary that is helpful for learners of all ages without being juvenile in presentation. For a print version, use a dictionary for young students (like the Scholastic Children’s Dictionary) though the child-oriented design of these books may put off older learners or one for English-language learners. 4. Translation Dictionaries Online dictionaries that enable visitors to type in a word and receive its equivalent in another language (or obtain an English word by entering a foreign one) abound; many websites, such as Dictionary.com’s Translator site, include search engines for multiple languages. Of course, print translation dictionaries are also easy to find on the Internet and in bookstores. (Recently published ones available at used-book stores are a good bargain.) 5. Unusual-Words Dictionaries Numerous Web-savvy language aficionados have created online repositories of seldom-used and/or offbeat words; go, for example, to the Phrontistery. You’ll also find many similar print compendiums, such as The Word Lovers’ Dictionary: Unusual, Obscure, and Preposterous Words, by Josefa Heifetz. Want to improve your English in five minutes a day? Business organization and Operations Management Case Study

Business organization and Operations Management - Case Study Example In this management style, the cloth retailers in UK especially the Moss Bros (which also operates Cecil Gee) management and staff work together as a group so as to harmonize operations such as deciding what should be invested in to the operation arrangement such as workforce, material, apparatus, power and how these resources can be easily be acquired and used to ensure that finished products meet the requirements of consumers, for instance the plan to sale of Cecil Gee and specialize in franchise business. The main aspects that should be addressed by the managers in charge of the operations management in Moss Bros are, speed, quality, dependability, cost and flexibility. Quality factor addresses the relevant or required standards in a product; speed addresses the time taken for operations to offer what is required; dependability is the extent to which the organization can be relied upon to deliver the pledges it makes to clients; flexibility addresses how fast a company can change its operations to meet new demand requirements; cost is the expenditure used up in operations and this requires that management understands these concepts for better management and organization (Galloway et al 2000). Due to the increasing economic problems in the whole world, there Moss Bros has out in place to improve its operations. The management operations in this cloth retailer was integrated to include features like empowering the executive team, simplifying the business operations especially the main sub sections; Moss, Hugo Boss and Cecil Gee, improving the product portfolio, exhibition and availability plus improving the cost effectiveness and enhancing the business efficiency (The Moss Bros Plc 2003). Since the appointment of Adrian Wright at the chief executive in the year 2002, the executive has been improving steadily; other appointments included the appointment of Philip Mountford as trading director who has a strong background in brand development, development and implementation of strategies for chains supplies. This is exactly the type of expertise that Moss Bros needed by that time to help it reduce the risk by reducing the uncertainties in the demand of clothes in the UK market. Another notable executive to be appointed was Roddy Murray as the finance director, the same year; he announced that the company had a stock of about 2.3 million sterling pounds worth of suit fabric, an amount that had decreased by less than half a million pounds in the 2004 second quarter (The Moss Bros Plc 2003). This accomplishment was attributed to the well defined supply chain operations as the company was generally aware that the adoption of market pull as a strategy would be more beneficial compared to product push. The process of business operations has been simplified since it was getting complicated because of the many formats used in the operations under different fascias which could lead to confusion in product offering and inconsistency (Galloway et al 2000). Efficient business operations has been integrated into the company's operations by the strong executive team enabling the firm to
